Point 15-Pearl and Dean Audiences

This is from the Pearl and Dean website and shows exactly what kind of people go to the cinema.
We should aim our movie at 15-24 years old females. We decided this by analizing the information from the graph. It shows that the most people how go to the cinema within 15-24 is almost the same between girls and boys. There is a rather large difference between the things an woman in her 30's is going  want to see in a movie and what a female teen is going to want to watch as seen in the interviews we took of people. When we interviewed teenage girls our age and woman in there 30's be discovered that the older woman prefered to see hunky men the same age as them. They also wanted to see a happy ending and lots of romance. The teenagers however wanted to see good editing, lots of action, conflict, romance, death, goodlooking acters, and a hero!

Point 13-Other Opinions on the themes of an Indie Thriller.

I have made a quick video asking what others think an ideal Thriller opening sequence would be include.

Extra-Ideal Audience

Whilst researching my 'ideal' audience I came accross this list which I found very helpful...

  • How to Increase Your Awareness of Audience
"You can increase your awareness of your audience by asking yourself a few questions before you begin to write.
    • Who are to be your readers?
    • What is their age level? background? education?
    • Where do they live?
    • What are their beliefs and attitudes?
    • What interests them?
    • What, if anything, sets them apart from other people?
    • How familiar are they with your subject?

Point 12- Mood board

We have chosen pictures that best represent our theme of thriller, we have included different camera shots, fonts, themes and other ideas.

Point 8-Indie Thrillers theme post

Some Indie Thrillers with Female Protaginists aimed at a female audience:
-Corroline
-Juno
-Hunger Games
-Hanna
-Brave
-Erin Brokovich
-The girl with the dragon tattoo

Common Traits of these movies are:

Characters:
They all have a young female lead who is on a misson/journey of some sort an has the help of a male character or underdog. Normally shown from the protagenists point of view. The female hero has events they must over come. Although there will often be short clips of the villian as well as some flashbacks which may create some sort of empathy for the villain.

Thiller:
They all create suspence making the audience want to continue watching and feeling like they don't untiarly understand  the plot but they know enough to want to find out more. This often gives the audience feelings of hope and fear. They use elements of drama and mystry to create this effect.

Recuring themes:
-Struggle, Revenge, hopelessness, mind games, death, suspence, celebration, danger, isolation and kidnapping.

Storyline:

-A much loved character is often faced with death
-A big chose is often made
-There is often themes of love or lust within the story
-All hope is lost but someone unlikey will often save the day
-Difference, the protaginest will often be face with a chose of difference over the norm.
-Happy ending with a twist.

Point 7-Opening Sequences.

I've been looking into the opening sequences of different movies such as Hanna, that are similar to my film brief and different effects I would like to include in my opening sequence.

One film in particular the I think works well with my film brief although has a male protaginist is 'Into the wild.'

Point 6-Film Brief.

I have chosen to do 'Thiller 1'. An indie thriller about someone whi is different from everyone else, aimed at a female audience.' Being as I am female I think I can better understand what a female audience whats to see. I would like to create a film about a teenage girl on the run, it would be about survival and independance. The first few scenes could show her in the wild maby starting a fire or hunting.  I would also like to have quotes or survival facts going accorss the scene as explonation. I would like to have a vocie over of the protaginist explaining her story so far. The begining few minutes should intice the audience and make them want to continue watching. I got insperation from watching the intro scenes to movies such as Hanna, Into the wild, Juno and Little Miss Sunshine.

I have come up with a story board so when we come to do one for our final piece I will have an idea of some themes I could use.

Point 5-Jelly baby plan.

In the end we decided on 'Thriller 1'. We had 5 still shots to create the intro to our thriller. We were also allowed to use other equipment for the jelly babies so Ursie and I chose to print off pictures as our main backrounds for our jelly babies. We printed of images from google that we thought best fit our idea and our story line.
One of the questions on the sheet we got given was
"How are you going to imply the genre, the gender of the characters, the mood of the movie?"
We are going to imply the genre by using by making it look as by researching the reacuring themes and plots of an 'Indie Thriller'. We are going imply the gender of the character by colour coding the jelly babies, they are all girls but the yellow one is the unpopular one and the red ones are a gang of 'populars'.
